The examination of the Diploma Theses of the undergraduate students of the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering took place with great success on November 1st and November 2nd 2018 .
On Friday 5th October 2018, Professor George Yannis, Director of the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of NTUA, presented the transportation engineering courses cycle to the Civil Engineering undergraduate students of the 6th semester, within the framework of the information event for the courses’ cycles organized by the School of Civil Engineering.
Dimitris Tselentis has successfully defended his PhD dissertation titled: “Benchmarking Driving Efficiency using Data Science Techniques applied on Large-Scale Smartphone Data”, on October 3rd 2018. This PhD thesis was carried out at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens under the supervision of Prof. G. Yannis.
Bidisha Ghosh Assistant Professor of the Department of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering, School of Engineering, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland gave a lecture on October 4th, 2018, at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering (Railways Amphitheater) of NTUA titled: “Cycling: Measurements, Impacts and Network Integration”.
In the framework of the international conference hEART2018 co-organized by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), AIMSUN offered a training course on the use of the Aimsun Next Traffic Simulation Program. Dr. Hiroaki Nishiuchi, Assistant Professor at the School of Systems Engineering of Kochi University of Technology (KUT) in Japan gave a Lecture on September 4th, 2018, at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of NTUA titled: “The change of passengers’ travel pattern and the level of service in public transport network”.
The Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was ranked 15th in Europe and 65th place worldwide among all Transportation Science & Technology Schools 
according to the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2018. NTUA road safety activities have contributed to this excellent performance. Accordingly, the NTUA Civil Engineering School was ranked 7th worldwide (3rd European) among all Civil Engineering Schools .

Prof. Tova Rosenbloom, Chair in Research Institute of Human Factors in Road Safety in the Management department at Bar Ilan University (BIU) in Israel gave a Lecture on June 22nd, 2018, at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering (Railways Amphitheater) of NTUA titled: “Individual differences of road users and their impact on their performance”.

The Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the chair of Transportation System Engineering of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are co-organising the 7th Symposium of the European Association for Research in Transportation (hEART) in September 5-7 2018 in Athens.
Members of the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering participated to the Transportation Research Board (TRB) 97th Annual Meeting that held with great success in Washington, D.C., on 7-11 January 2018. The meeting program covered all transportation modes, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 800 sessions and workshops, addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. Akrivi Varela, Vaia Drossou and Alkistis-Irini Batala, students of the School of Civil Engineering NTUA, have been awarded with “Apostolos Chr. Yotis” Award, for the highest average grade at the mandatory courses Highway Engineering I (5th semester), Highway Engineering II (6th semester) and at the mandatory of cycle course Pavements (8th semester), during the academic year 2016-2017.
New International Master of Science in Environmental Engineering totally taught in English in now available in Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM).
The MS course aims to train engineers capable of dealing with complex problems and design conventional and innovative solutions related to environmental and territorial issues such as water resources, soil conservation, pollution control, energy resources and environment and land protection.
The School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was selected among 13 Greek Universities to host a Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program Project entitled “Collaborative Research in Smart and Shared Mobility: Grow Research Capacity and Mentor Graduate Students in Transportation Planning and Engineering”.
Assistant Professor Eleni I. Vlahogianni led the project, together with Associate Professor, Konstantina “Nadia” Gkritza, a Fellow from Purdue University, Indiana US.
