Διάλεξη του Αναπληρωτή Καθηγητή Marko Sevrovic στο ΕΜΠ – 23 Iουνίου 2023

Ο Dr. Marko Ševrović Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής  στη Σχολή Επιστημών Μεταφορών και Κυκλοφορίας του Πανεπιστημίου του Ζάγκρεμπ, έδωσε διάλεξη η οποία πραγματοποιήθηκε με μεγάλη επιτυχία την Παρασκευή 23 Ιουνίου 2023 στο Αμφιθέατρο Σιδηροδρομικής και Μεταφορών του Τομέα Μεταφορών και Συγκοινωνιακής Υποδομής του ΕΜΠ με τίτλο «Εκτιμήσεις Aσφάλειας Oδικών Yποδομών – η Mεθοδολογία iRAP«.

In this lecture, we analyse the International Road Assessment Programme’s (iRAP) methodology for road safety. The lecture covers iRAP’s two-pronged approach: proactive and reactive measures. The proactive component utilizes iRAP’s Star Rating system, which evaluates various road parameters, such as design, traffic volume, and intersection layout. This predictive tool enables the identification of potential risk zones, allowing for pre-emptive safety enhancements to mitigate possible accidents. This approach is considered ‘proactive’ as it identifies and addresses safety issues before incidents occur.

The lecture then shifts focus to iRAP’s reactive measures, which use empirical road traffic crash data to pinpoint and rectify existing issues. This ‘reactive’ approach provides valuable insights from past incidents, ensuring the same problems do not recur.

The discussion further delves into the Safe System Approach—an approach that aims for zero fatalities or severe injuries on the road by acknowledging human error and designing roads to minimize the consequences of such errors. Lastly, the lecture explores iRAP’s foresight in considering future traffic growth and its potential impact on safety, providing a nuanced understanding of sustainable road safety measures. Through a deep examination of these components, the lecture elucidates how iRAP’s methodology contributes to the ongoing efforts to enhance road safety globally.

Bio

Associate professor Marko Ševrović has more than 20 years of experience working on different transport planning, road infrastructure design and road safety projects. During his bachelor studies at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb in 2004. he started working at the Institute of Transport and Communications in Zagreb, where he worked as an expert associate in the field of transport planning, transport network design and GIS. His early professional interests in transport involved novel approaches to road use charging schemes and roadside equipment inventory video surveying and that directed him towards research of GNSS and development of specific GIS application, such as developing georeferenced video surveying equipment and implementation of EuroRAP protocols in Croatia. In 2010 he started a position at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (FPZ) where he continued his work on Transport planning and Road Safety. He obtained his PhD on GNSS Road Tolling schemes design in 2014. and since then is holding a position of Head of Department for Transport Planning. Marko was a Project Manager and principal road safety engineer on many Transport planning projects in Croatia and EuroRAP/iRAP and Road Safety related projects including performing all iRAP protocols and capacity building trainings in Croatia, England, Qatar, Lebanon, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, Bosnia and others. He also worked on several EU funded project related to the road infrastructure safety such as SENSOR, RADAR, SLAIN, NETSAFETY and currently Horizon Europe projects PHOEBE and ELABORATOR.

He is currently sharing his time between University of Zagreb, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (FPZ) and EIRA-EuroRAP where he is working as a Senior Road Safety Engineer on the RADAR project. Marko is a Charted Transport Engineer and licensed Road Safety Auditor in Croatia.
