Phd Thesis at the Laboratory of Pavement Engineering of the NTUA School of Civil Engineering, March 2024

The Laboratory of Pavement Engineering of the NTUA School of Civil Engineering is seeking a PhD Candidate for a PhD Thesis on the Development of Artificial Intelligence Methodologies in Pavements.

The required qualifications of candidates are:
– a Master’s degree or a single and unbroken Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
– Excellent knowledge of the English language
– Excellent computer skills (MS Office)
– Knowledge of programming tools (ideally machine learning software)

Funding sources: ELKE Fellowship and Research Projects of the Laboratory of Pavement Engineering.

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Imperial College London is offering 4 scholarships to students  from Ghana, Greece, Malaysia and Mexico applying for postgraduate courses in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Business subjects.

The scholarship programme offers financial support to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study at Imperial.

Ecole des Ponts ParisTech Master programmes for NTUA students, February 2024

Ecole des Ponts ParisTech is inviting students from NTUA to apply to the following 3 Master programmes designed for students holding a Master’s degree (Only applications from candidates previously nominated will be considered):

  • Materials Sciences for Sustainable Construction (taught in English)
  • Transport and Mobility (taught in French)
  • Mechanics of Soils, Rocks and Structures in their Environment (taught in French)

Interested students have the opportunity to apply to these programmes under the framework of the partnership agreement between ParisTech and NTUA, and through the same platform as applicants to their MSc of Engineering.

Within the framework of the Horizon Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Industrial Doctoral Network IVORY – Artificial Intelligence for Vision Zero in Road Safety, a call for applications for 15 new Industrial PhD candidates has been launched, 4 of them to be hosted by National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), a Centre of Road Safety Research Excellence with global recognition. NTUA at the 103rd TRB Annual Meeting, Washington DC, January 2024

The Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens contributed actively with several innovative scientific papers and presentations at the 103rd Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), which took place with great success in Washington DC from January 7th to January 11th 2024.
The meeting program has covered all transportation modes, with more than 600 workshops addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions.

 

NTUA Professors among the top 2% researchers in the world, November 2023

In a recently published study conducted at Stanford University (USA), using a range of parameters for each scientist’s research contribution and influence, million scientists data from Scopus database were analysed. According to this study 971 Greek scientists are contained in the global top 2%, among which 130 researchers from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). 21 Professors from the School of Civil Engineering of NTUA are among the top 2% researchers in the world (5 within the top-ten of NTUA), while 6 of them from the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering, (5 within the top-eleven of the School of Civil Engineering). icon.url

 

NTUA – Telematics boosting mobility behaviour Workshop, Athens, November 2023

The NTUA Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering organised with great success a Scientific Workshop titled “Telematics boosting mobility behaviour” which took place at the NTUA Campus in Athens on November 22nd, 2023.

The rapid spread of innovative technologies in the field of telematics creates new opportunities to monitor, evaluate and improve driver behaviour through feedback tools, providing incentives to drivers for safer and greener behaviour, with spectacular results.

During this workshop, the new interactive SafeRoadsMap tool for safe and green travelling in Greece has been released.

Prof. Eleni Vlahogianni receives the 2017-2020 ITSM Outstanding Research Paper High Commendation Award, Augoust 2023

NTUA Professor Eleni Vlahogianni has received the 2017–2020 ITSM Outstanding Paper Award. The Award Judging Panel’s decision is based on the consideration of the following decision-making criteria: originality, citations, impact and importance. This decision has been announced in IEEE – Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine, Vol. 15, Number 2, 2023, pp.272-274.

Professor Andreas Loizos keynote Lecture at the International Conference on Geophysics for GPR, July 2023

The distinguished lecture of Professor Andreas Loizos at the International Conference on Geophysics for GPR “12th International Workshop on Advanced Ground Penetrating Radar” held on 5-7 July 2023 in Lisbon with great success. The topic of the lecture “Advances and Challenges on GPR in Pavement Infrastructure” was about the latest developments in geophysics and radar in transportation infrastructure projects, with a special emphasis on the impact of AI.

Professor Emeritus John Golias appointed Minister at the new transitional Government of Greece, May 2023

Professor Emeritus John Golias was appointed Minister of Infrastructure and Transport at the new transitional Government of Greece.

Professor Emeritus John Golias has been the Director of Traffic Engineering Laboratory of the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Rector of National Technical University of Athens. He has been involved in all areas of transportation planning and engineering sector for more than 40 years through numerous research projects, engineering studies and committees in Greece and abroad and he is the author of a great number of published scientific papers, cited widely worldwide. He served also as Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport during the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and Chairman of the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers.

 

NTUA – Road Safety Research Challenges Workshop, Athens, May 2023

NTUA within the framework of the Seventh UN Global Road Safety Week organised with great success a Scientific Workshop titled “Road Safety Research Challenges” which was held at the Railways and Transport Laboratory (and online) on May 19th, 2023 .

The objective of this Workshop was to highlight through an intensive flow of presentations the main findings and challenges of key road safety research projects carried out within the NTUA Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering.
